It's funny when I lived in Philly I would wonder how people could think Dunkin D was great coffee. Once you strip it of the ton of cream and pound of sugar its pretty bland and indistinct. I love a good espresso I think it really allows you to taste the subtle flavors of a good roast, and really lead me to drinking it straight. I can't wait to try some of this Honey Bean coffee especially since its fair trade.

Great question Mike! To be completely honest I am just starting at coffee tasting too. We all know when we are drinking BAD coffee, ie Folgers, gas station etc. The trick is when you find a coffee that tastes great, to describe why it tastes great to you. I like to smell the beans right after opening and right after grinding and brewing. I taste with a big slurp, roll it around, and then a swish. I just try to coat my entire mouth with the coffee and the slurp helps to spread it into your nasal cavity a bit. While I'm doing all of this I mentally think about what I am tasting besides the basic coffee flavor/smell. I will cover this down the road when I am more tuned into cupping as well :) Thanks again for dropping in and your gracious comments!

Thanks for that answer. That definitely does help. Each cup I taste, I feel like I'm learning more and more. It's pretty exciting.

Really learned a lot from this video and as I was watching it, I came up with a question. How do you taste coffee? Do you have a process that you do? I like to smell it, sip on it, swirl it around my mouth, but I got that from tasting wine. Is there a coffee way of doing it and do you have any advice on developing your coffee taste buds?
